Hate AH's take the fun out of the game and especially WoW (which is too friggin easy with lazy a-holes and their damn bots) where everyone is obsessed with how their barbie doll looks..

Just a fun fact I saw when beta testing TL2: A room named "gold farming".
If anyone actually tried to buy something from that, with the beta ending today... well...

Diablo 3 feels a lot like a AAA facebook game. It will be even more so when the RMAH launches.

@Simple Tales of it's launch troubles were greatly exaggerated. It went down a while for American servers yes; but the only Americans strongly affected would have been the unemployed who shouldn't be spending 60 bucks on a game, and people calling in sick just to play a game.

@Lolwat: A game should normally launch without a problem. That's the definition of a working piece of software. He doesn't know what he's talking about? Neither do you.
Lolwat

@Sage: You're pretty new to MMO's in general if you think a game should launch without any issue. It's fine if you're new and all, but try not to act like you know what you're talking about when you are new. Anyway, enjoy TL2, and then 3 when all that farming you did is made worthless, then 4.

I bet that in about 6 months after the launch of the real-money AH you'd be able to get a set of the best equipment the game has to offer for a dollar. Certain "farmers" will just flood the market with stuff, and Blizzard will have to limit the AH in some way or another. Or just lower the droprates.

Considering that I'm extremely poor, TL2 seems far more interesting then Activision's little log-in simulator. There are stress tests for a reason, and Blizz learned the hard way about how much you need a decent set of servers for WoW's launch. Maybe I'll try D3 when the price drops...owayt.

My problem with the Auction House is that it's THE reason you need to have internet access to play. You can argue this or that is the reason, but deep down, you know the AH is the biggest reason. If you're not online, how can you see it?

Diablo is a series that is, and always has been, based around random loot drops. Skill ISN'T a factor.
Jurka
Now that's my kinda game.

TLII has also none of the graphical issues of DIII, and all it's strengths and none of his weaknesses. Except for the story, TLII is lacking, but that's TL anyway.
Jurka
DIII is facerolling, even without the AH... The AH is in the game, and it is something you can use to make your character stronger. You would be a fool not to use it. That's the problem.

Torchlight II... Veteran mode. The first boss I met (sidequest boss) took me 10 minutes. Imagine in Hard Mode.
Jurka

The thing with the AH is... gamers should never have to set themselves a challenge by consciously not using something if they don't want to (we're not talking about self imposed challenges here, but for the decent gamer). The game should be naturally challenging.

I didnt use the AH until my Demon Hunter was around lvl 46 I think... Then I suddenly realised I had been doing things the hard way... With my Barbarian I check for a new upgrade each 5 lvls in order to kill mobs faster and it's made lvling such a delight :P

Yo dawg, I heard you like dumping money into games, so we gave you a way to dump money into games while dumping money into games, so you can pay to play while you pay to play!

And yes, Frozen Orb is the "Ice Shards Fall, EVERYONE DIES" button.
Vulpis
...rather than just dumping in cash.
Vulpis

...of gear sold by the NPC vendors, having an AH around to swap on is a useful thing. Here's an odd thought, though--maybe make an AH-only 'barter' currency that you get by selling items yourself, *maybe* with a 'gold' currency-buy at badly inflated rates. You'd grind for gear to trade with, (cont)
Vulpis
Thing is...they're both right. On the one hand, pay2win, either with an AH or straight cash-store is *lazy*, and makes you wonder why someone who gears like that even bothers playing. OTOH, when you're loaded down with a ton of drops you can't use at all, and you've already passed the levels (cont)
Naniwo

Really, deep down, isn't Frozen Orb an I-Win button, and the monsters, vending machines?

Gold in Diablo 2 serves a VERY important purpose. That purpose is gambling for some epic gear.

Oh and repairing your shit and rezzing your merc, but that's not as important.
FailGame

Like there was any skill requirement in that game made for retards.
Slick

I remember going into Diablo 2 servers specifically to trade gear/gold that I had for gear/gold other people had.

What's the difference between that and having a built in AH? Same thing, easier execution.
Noriko
I tend to do a lot of exploring and use the gold I get to purchase better weapons but I can never afford better gear so I rely on drops for the gear itself and so far this has worked out quite well.

A Diablo game without loot? That's kind of like a Street Fighter game, without punch or kick buttons...
Scow2
I love the idea of the Auction House, because of how it makes gold WORTHWHILE again. You still need to go dungeon crawling for good loot, except now when the RNG gives you incredible luck for a build that isn't yours, it's not despair-worthy.

Stay chained to your several-day old game full of hacks and stolen accounts, I'm going to enjoy games that have stood the test of time and were made *worth a damn*.

By the way, avoid public games. That's how the hackings are occurring.

What I'm getting here is that Diablo 3 is more like a mmorpg than a dungeon crawler. Ugh.
Alex

Most of dropped stuff would not fit your character class. So, when i played D2, I used ATMA to swap items.
Titan Quest s the same, but has inherent item swapping functionality, thankfully.
Toothball

It seems like they had the choice of starting their own Auction House, or leaving people to eBay and the like as happens with most other online games. I'm not a big fan of the costs, but I'd rather see the devs get a cut rather than some gold farmer.

I think it's perfectly fine for the female characters in this comic to not be in skimpy bikini outfits for a change, and pick up some dignity where it's appropriate.

...However, a lack of underboob in this comic is not appropriate.

Well, some of the best items are crafted through the Smith, actually...granted you still have to get the plans to drop for them, which I'm presuming are really damned rare. And THEN you have to get the obscene amounts of materials to craft them. They're pretty much the "Well t...what now?" items.
Davtwan

Hey, can you two keep it down? I'm trying to play.

Lord knows how those two reached their levels since they idle all day to rant.

I don't see a problem with an AH in D3(although I think RMAH is still a dumb idea as anything but a business propsect for blizzard). Honestly with all of the issues it has that would be the least of it's evils. Also anybody who payed money for this game should be punched in the dick.

Isn't the only point in playing diablo to grind items? If you get the items from the AH, why do you play?
Nobody

Ah yes, the idea that "I got this gear through winning glorified dice rolls" is somehow better than "I got this gear by buying it (off of someone who won it in a glorified dice roll)"

There was tons of item trading in Diablo 2. Just not through blizzard, and not with useless gold.

I ignored the AH for my first playthrough and a majority of my nightmare playthrough. Finally decided to use it....doubled my DPS and only spent a few thousand gold (which is nothing).

Now I buy items for my HC character every step of the way just to stay ahead of the curve.
