The Pro scene: overinflated egos, overinflated egos everywhere

@nttea But, my dear "MLG," that's exactly what Dota2 players are: little shits who would have a heart attack playing two minutes of basketball IRL running around talking about how pro they are at a crappy videogame. U mad?

Same as in every sport and e-sport. Drama feed us!

@Ninj77: They earn money from it, which is the definition of professional.

@2033: Agree, pal. Even the term "professional players" is a joke itself. Btw, is the new comic late?

and here people ask why I hate professional players?
Aki

@Tk: except there ARE teams in SC, and that's where a lot of the drama comes from (contacting sponsors, players fucking up contracts, etc)

I enjoy Starcraft 2's 1v1 pro play because it's larger armies fighting. But MOBA is just awful IMO. I hated it on Warcraft 3, and I hate it still.

I imagined the first two panels were a really bad anime drama with exaggerated Japanese.

MLG, the most perfect setting for comedy

Yeah, the web is that way. Though I like developer drama better. EvE Online removed the in game jukebox. Excrement to fan contact webside.

Brofist Top Gun, I don't get it either.
Top Gun

I don't see any appeal whatsoever in the whole MOBA/Action-RTS/whatever genre, but watching other people play it competitively? I sat through a bit of a match once, just out of curiosity, and dear lord, it made golf look like a Michael Bay movie. I just don't get it.

@Xedric I take it you don't follow the LoL Pro Scene. It's ten times as bad since there's a ton more money on the line.
Xedric

In other words. Play LoL. It's just easier and there's less bitching.

@mac Spoken like a true noob, you certainly haven't played dota2 if you think being pro at it is just memorizing op strategies and muscle memory. If it was then guess what, like 50% of the playerbase would be pro.
Mac
Not to mention that being a "pro" at videogames is a joke. All it boils down to is memorizing OP strategies and muscle memory- which I suppose you could argue is like Chess, albeit a much, much more watered down version.

Dat perspective.
I actually thought Sephiroth's hand turned into hooves for a sec.
And yeah, drama, same on LoL.

@Benny Tops: And That also ties back into the comic and drama. Wow, ramble much.

See you at the Tops.

Hmmm.... I noticed the Seph/Cloud (sounds like an STD) too. I really like the fact that Jo ain't bending over backward to please anyone but himself. Makes for far or entertaining comics. It is kinda the same reason that Blizz takes input but will ignore most of it. People tend to be very self servin

The fundamental issue with "Pro" video gaming is that it's too easy to be truly great and the money isn't really good enough to make it seriously exclusive. Those two factors contribute to a revolving door of talent.
AEIOU
And this is why I refuse to go competitive.
On another note, they should totally do a drama like this. Don't show the actual players, but use a personification of the teams and games.

You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar
When I met you. I picked you out
I shook you up

And turned you around
Turned you into someone new.

If it is to be humiliated, I go to my work, if it is to be charged, I get my marriage, but in DOTA, some Pro try to be our bosses or wife.

Reason i love Eve, cant stand playing it but the player interaction and corporate drama makes it so much more fun watching than playing

The Cloud and Seph thing was intentional. They are supposed to represent "Big Gaming Figures", and the fact that Sephiroph is kicking Cloud off the team is because he is supposed to be the bad guy in the drama. Simple enough.

Check out starcraft reddit. Drama each day. Delicious.
It's good! A maturity of a sport brings validation. Validation brings money. Money brings drama.

Esports
Welcome to Esports where the drama overtakes the game. Don't follow Dota2 but do follow other Esports so I can imagine it's pretty much the same. Gamers can obsess or be entertained by pro gamers just as much as sports fans can by pro athletes.
