So, the point this comic is making is that if you're going to spend money wastefully, you should spend it on something you will use?
Have you not considered not spending the money at all? If you didn't spend that money on something useless, maybe game companies would make games actually worth

and simply still win with player ability and skill, even in a mirror match. Over all player skill will always triumph over the miniscule 20damage here or 5% recovery rate there. I also am more then happy with champion rotation, makes players learn more, and saves from sterile gameplay.

You all claim that LoL is pay to win due to the "drastic endgame Runes" you can obtain with faster IP rates. See i have a problem with this, i know for a fact *as i've done it many a times* you can go into a match in the high 20 ranks without a single rune on

I'm with Jo on this one. Even after 5 years, I still buy the occasional key or item on TF2 and I know it'll be a 'better' purchase, then a new game. It might be more reasonable to not buy anything and save up, but if I do buy something, I might as well make sure I'll use it.

We get it, you either have no life and play over 4 hours a day (so you get to afford everything you need), or you play at such low level that the power-cycling Riot does with the game balance doesn't affect you.
Either way, your opinion isn't relevant. Chu's opinion is, though.

unsatisfied with your champion roaster at the time.

On P2W in LoL:
- XP boosts: noob trap.
- runes: only a concern from level 20 to a few weeks after reaching level 30, while everyone is not properly equipped and it matters. But using your IPs on those should be your priority at that time, so it would only be detrimental to you if you are

So again, both titles are great. I play both and I don't really like one over the other. I enjoy DOTA2's actual, 100% free to play model, but I hate its community. Meanwhile I enjoy LoL's community support and overall design better, but I can't stand that you have to pay to unlock characters.
Rola
So while LoL may qualify as a Pay to Win title, it still has a better community than DOTA2 (if ever slightly, thanks to the Tribunal) and is overall easier to learn to play. DOTA2 on the other hand can tote that it is 100% free and nobody gets a single advantage over anyone else. It's life.
Rola
@O.O is ultimately correct. Whether or not you think they are minor (and I don't think restricting access to characters is minor at all, runes are another matter), LoL still has features that qualify for Pay to Win. DOTA2 does not. Both games are great, but you have to learn to accept their flaws.

@Rola: you simply cannot buy tier 3 runes before level 20 and T1&2 runes are crap. So the only real advantage you get with IP boost is diversity of champions. But as I said before you will end up playing 5 champs 90% of all time. Every new champ will be in free rotation in 2 weeks after release...
O.O
Time is a resource so LoL is still pay to win. Either you pay with money or time to keep up or stay runeless and be left behind. Doesn't matter if you play once a month in dota you are still evenly matched to those who play everyday.
Rola
@Sure: Still means that someone who's using IP boosts and getting bonus IP from his purchases (it's happened) is going to be able to afford runes before, not to mention he won't be limited to using whatever heroes are up for grabs, and will be able to better complement his team and learn to play.
Sure
@Rola: at level 20 you already have enough IP to buy full rune set for one role. Before level 20 runes aren't worth buying. So boosts don't give you any advantage since matchmaking are trying to place same level in one game.
Rola
You can buy IP boosts with RP which lets you get runes much much faster, so it's all the same. This isn't about LoL sucking, I love LoL, I love DOTA2 too, but I can also see that if you have money, LoL is going to be easier for you since you can buy all the heroes you want and get runes/exp faster.

You do realize you can't buy runes with RP right? Yes you can buy rune pages, but to be quite honest all you need is 3-5 pages, everything else is "specialized" to cater to specific champs. All in all this P2W mindset to LoL is pretty much null and void.

DOTA2 lets you buy cosmetic items that change nothing to the game and allows them to generate money for their 100% free to play game.
LoL lets you buy non-cosmetic items that eliminate the need to play for countless months to get the best runes and heroes.
LoLshitters please go, there's a world of difference between optional cosmetic items that support an amazing game developer and pay2win bullshit that supports a scumbag company.

Hell, even the 3150 champs aren't hard to get IP for. Yes it helps the team to have more champions unlocked, but it's not a necessity. I agree that their model encourages people to buy champions, but not anymore than TF2's model encourages people to buy weapons/keys.
Iceholder
You can't buy every champion with IP in a short amount of time. You can, however, buy a damn good selection with IP in a short amount of time. 450 and 1350 IP champions are extremely easy to save up for if you're playing PvP, and they're more than enough to get the job done.

The total cost when there were 97 champs according to this post http://euw.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=674026 is 355800, plus the new champs since. You get 100-300 a game.
