Been having the same $#%*'ing conversation about Firefall.
I know this is the Internet and all, but I keep expecting the stupid to have some kind of finite value based on actual evidence.
LOLNOPE.
What it does do it gave me the same feelings of playing WoW for the first time.

you're a generic WoW clone, I'm a generic WoW clone, EvE, FFXIV, Guild Wars 2, TERA; all WoW clones. I went to the store today and and I needed three things, milk bread and eggs. I got them and guess what? I realized they were all generic WoW clones and that i was doing a fetch quest
I guess what people asking if it's a wow clone really means is:
Does the game does ANYTHING new? It advertised itself as the next big shit (as always), so is their arrogance justified or not? If it's a MMO with a lot of skills and hack'n slash then i won't be playing it.
@Anonymous: Every thing is a wow clone.
Its not because no ones trying to make a wow clone. Its cause no ones made something that can be held up as the next Big kid on the block.
LOL a lot of people said "WOW clone I hate it! WHARGARBL!" Seriously just stop playing MMO and switch to another genre if you really sick of WMMORPG. It's like calling every FPS games "COD clone."
The main reason I declined to subscribe is it has terrible framerates on my laptop even with all the settings turned down. I don't have this problem with D3 or any other game -- I'm inclined to call this shoddy programming, since many others have reported the same problem.
Played the beta for a bit. Yeah it basically is a wow clone. It has various little innovations, but it's not really trying to disguise who it's filching from. I've seen plenty of other MMOs that were FAR more shameless about this, though, Wildstar at least tries to inject some genuine creativity.
C'mon Jo. Wildstar is WoW Clone with Smite combat system.
Other thing we can talk about is: "is cloning wow bad?" I don't know if you realised, but WoW was made by ripping off all good feature of old mmos and putting them in one game. It was good becouse everything was already tested and known.

@Jo, you should try playing World of Tanks from Wargaming. Its a very fun game that many people are getting into. Its Free to Play, but a premium tank helps in the grinds. (Get a low tier one if you do, people will hate you in a tier 8 premium)
I stand by what I said the other day. I hate the combat, and I feel the problem with it is exactly the same as I have with what I vaguely remember WoW combat to be when the game came out.
as far as i heard, people who worked on WoW are working on Wildstar, considering that, regardless what one thinks of Wow, it DID sell well, made lots of money, and in general is one of the longest living MMO's out there.
It's not like I play other MMOs than WoW for a different playstyle anyways.
I play other MMOs for different settings and better graphics. I'll admit I'm a Blizzard fanboy but there is a reason WoW is so popular.
While it's certainly not a "clone" of WoW, Wildstar certainly does everything WoW does or, at least, is trying to. Right down to the skill trees. But then World of Warcraft is, itself, so damned generic.

It's kind of like WoW, except the combat system is actually not shit!
@Geary: Guild Wars 2 was bad. Boring armor, weapons. Boring skills. Classes are all the same. Shitty end-game content. Combat is fun but enemies are damage sponges. Runs like shit. Side missions are repetitive. The main storyline was okay.

@g33kz0rd: Clickfest is uberset of MMO, for example D3 is clickfest as well.
...personally i hate all these low skill importance/high gear importance games
@Ribusprissin: Having played the beta I can say that Wildstar can be summed as thus:
-Boring quest-based leveling a-la WoW
-Involved raids and attunements with huge groups a-la old WoW
-Telegraph-based dodgy combat a-la Guild Wars 2
-A cartoony style like Ratchet and Clank
Some MMOs have more similarity to WOW than others. SWTOR is very much like WOW, while DDO is very unlike it. Games like DCUO and TSW are somewhere in the middle. I wonder where Wildstar is on that spectrum?

Personally my criteria for WoW clones nowadays is the payment method. Does it charge the amount for a full game, but charge you a third of that amount 30 days later if you want to keep playing? If I wanted to sap my money like a mini-sentry, I would be playing WoW.
@g33kz0rd That's the part I quit for. All the mindless clicking and no real stakes made Raiding so boring for me, I fell asleep at the screen. No PvP record was saving me from that on a Raid heavy server. Good groups had me on a blacklist eventually, made for and consisting of yours truly.
@g33kz0rd: methinks it needs something new... less grinding, more interesting stuff to do, better skill/level-up mechanics... i mean, the best MMO i've ever played is still ragnarok online, fer chrissakes, mainly due to the fact that it was very customizable, when it came to building your charact.
MMO games need, at least for me, is to be a click fest. You just go around clicking stuff and some other stuff happens and then you follow the arrow and click the other place. But theres no real brain to put in there. You just click where it tells to you and you are done.
By 'WoW clone', i imagine that people mean to ask if it has or not an almost identical playstyle (the way it looks, how the skills work, the setting, etc).
