@Greener: That makes no sense. At all. For one thing, neither of the heroes in this strip have the blink ability, so why would anybody mention it?
@Greener: No, that one thing you said makes no damn sense. "None of your regulars play MOBAs"??? And your reasoning for this is that they didn't mention one particular spell (which neither Viper nor Tiny have), and they didn't mention right clicking? Why would anybody talk about clicking a mouse?
@Greener: Huh? Lots of his regulars play Dota 2. I play it, others here play it as they have said, so the statement "none of your regulars play MOBAs" makes no sense. The fact that we have not mentioned one specific spell used by heroes isn't proof of anything; Viper and Tiny don't Blink.
@Chicago Ted: Maybe so, but if that's the case then it makes me feel kind of sad.

Why are people still complaining about Dota comics, or the lack of TF2 comics, maybe Jo simply doesn't think he can do anymore with TF2 or finds Dota more interesting, its not like he hasn't already made a gazillion TF2 comics already anyway

Obviously spoiler alert for everybody who's not up to date on GoT:

Also may or may not tell you how the Arc's gonna play out.
@Otter: The age of a game isn't necessarily a factor. Remember that when Jo did that Starcraft arc in the early days of the comic, Starcraft was ten years old.

@NotDrFrank: That would be my preference as well.
@Otter: Well, I think there are still possibilities. For example: what if Jane, Morgan, Alek and Anne-Marie decided to play a game...and by pure chance, they ended up on the same server and on the opposite team as Engie, the girl they replaced? Could be interesting to see how they all reacted.

@Otter: I think there's still a lot you could do with it. For example: what if the girls were playing the game, and ran into Engie (taking a break from coding) on the same server, on the other team? Be interesting to see how everybody reacted, I think.
@NotDrFrank: That'd be my preference too. I actually had an idea for a series of TF2 strips I posted some time ago: what if the girls were playing TF2, and ran into Engie (taking a break from coding) on the same server, on the other team? Be interesting to see how everybody reacted, I think.

A story arc with Tiny in it? Possibly as the main character?
yaaaay
The people who always want TF2 comics, you do realise that there are limits on what you can do with a freakin' 7 year old video game especially after all the arcs we already had and holy shit we are getting old. And it's already years since Dota 2 came out too, just get over it already please.
@Verteros: I don't think he should do strips about a game just because "it has the most players". But I brought up the number of players yesterday in response to people basically saying "Nobody cares about Dota 2." Obviously a lot of people care about it.
@Verteros: If Jo enjoyed playing LoL, he probably would. But he doesn't. Consider that a lot fewer people play FTL than Dota 2 AND TF2, and yet Jo dedicated several strips to that game because he was interested in it.
@Bekrjb: Fair enough. But hypothetically, how do you think you would feel if one day the Dota 2 strips either stopped completely, or became very rare?

@Lampenpam: Approximately 8 million players, by your logic let's do 10x the number of League of Legends arcs.
@Verteros but saying 50% of the people here never played Dota is not stupid or what? xD
It's just one of the most played games Joe made a comic about
@Verteros From all games Joe made comics about, Dota is the most played one. So I highly doubt that 50% of the people don't understand the dota comics.
And stop complaining, you're just being annoying. I also don't flame like crazy when the comic is about a game I didn't play, gees
The funny thing about all of the complaints about the Dota 2 strips is that they're precisely the reason I started following this comic. I may not have been here for as long as some of you guys, but I really enjoy the site and Dota 2 is what brought me here.
Doesn't matter, casuals and new people will pretend that they get the jokes just so they can pretend that they belong among the smartest minds that can enjoy these complex jokes.
And i say this because i don't watch game of thrones and i won't pretend to get the joke.
People might overreact and get more angry about it than they should. I'm not saying that's the correct response. Just that I understand why they don't feel good about it. And I guess that's all I have to say about it for now.
I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, and if these days you are more interested in Dota 2 than TF2 and if it also brings in more readers, I can't say I blame you, Jo. But even so, people have lost something that they never expected to lose, something they really enjoyed...
This reminds me of a game that i played...
I am Tiny. I went to mid to hunt Viper. Just before i started to hit, he ulted me. My attack speed dropped dramatically, I cant even land a single hit...
And he kills me :(
Then after Dota 2 came out, there were a roughly equal number of TF2 strips and Dota 2 strips. Gradually, the focus shifted to Dota 2, until the TF2 strips just...vanished almost entirely. For people whose interest in TF2 brought them to this comic, it must have been a big change.
I don't think the Dota strips suck or anything, but I understand why TF2 fans are frustrated. While this was never exclusively a TF2 comic, it was kind of a comic about "TF2 And Other Video Games". People got used to a certain number of TF2 strips every month.

Keep bringing GoT into every DotA-Strip please, good way to enjoy those, too.
Will we get another close-up of that eye later on, though?^^
@A5PECT: This is simply not true. My gamer friends who don't play TF2 get confused about some tf2 jokes all the time.

I may or may not have enjoyed them, but ultimately NerfNow is Jo's comic and he decides which demographics he caters to.

Interesting arc, can wait to see how the story will continue!

Having said that, I am a gamer that has never played a MOBA in my life and I've been able to get the gist of many of the DotA-based strips and story arcs on NerfNow without outside explanation.

Stories about DotA, however, leave non-DotA MOBA-playing readers out of the loop regarding hero characterization and inside jokes. Readers that don't play any MOBAs at all and don't understand their meta-game can be locked out of the story completely.

Incoming Rant:
The nice thing about TF2 arcs on NerfNow is that even if a reader doesn't play the game, they can still appreciate most of the narrative because the characters are so heavily rooted in their archetypes.
