Not MoNtezuma, but MoCtezuma. Moctezuma Xocoyotzin. And yes, México is North America. And yes, things tend to get very "melee" the lower you go from Río Bravo. Aaaaaaaand Morgan. =)

@Nerf NOW!!: you'd be suprised how popular alpha centauri still is. honely 90% of the conversations I hear about Civ beyond earth is basically "but Alpha Centaruri did this this and this better..."

The other 10% is "this feels more like a siv 5 mod than a new civ game"

Of course future has melee... I mean.. laser swords are the future. right? ...RIGHT?!
"Melee" in therms of civ games isn't exactly a sword fight, but a relatively close combat situation where both attacking and defending units can deal damage to each other, whether it's a firefight or tank battle.

Melee combat is a game construct. And it's because the South Americans are a military dictatorship.

From what I conclude on today's comic is that there's an Utopia consists of Morgan's clones.

Melee is a bit of a misnomer. In Civilization, all it means is that the two units are actually next to each-other, not that they're actually fighting with swords. You can see that most (not sure all) units are still fighting with guns.

@Mags: Tupac from South America still. That's where he went after he faked his own death.

@Rukifellth: Montezuma was from Mexico and Mexico is in North America. :-P Tupac was from South America.

Melee attacks :unlimited weapon & special for narrow space & useful for explosive places (such inside a spaceship).

And, there is not such think as a standard south americans, for example Brazilians are Argentinians are completely different. And, even inside the same country exists differences.

Don't be silly, Jo. It‘s because our primary weapon slot is filled with vinegar.

@Ribusprissin: This brings up the question: are we talking about a holosuit, as in something you would wear, or a holosuite which is another way of saying a holodeck? Also, he totally meant Aristocats, because they're the same selfish, needy little shits, with 10% more hair/fur.

Simple: Montezuma was from South America, this is the result.

South Americans are prone to... solve things personally.

Why do soldiers learn martial arts? Some fights can be too close for guns. Hyper dense urban warfare would see its use. Melee isn't exclusively Swords and Pikes. Also melee is much safer on ships where shooting holes in the hull or vital systems is counter productive.

Jo, one tip to make your English better: when writing questions, put the verb in front of the subject.
"Why isn't our holosuitE finished yet?"
All the other sentences in the comic are correct (except for spelling errors) (refugeEs, aristocRats).

@anothga: It's Civilization Beyond Earth, yes. At this point if I put anything about Alpha Centauri people would not recognize. The game is just too old now.
I see this comic is labeled as Civilization. I presume it's Civilization: Beyond Earth? I first thought of Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri when I read the description, before I saw the title, but since C:BE *is* AC with Serial Numbers Filed Off due to game title-related shenanigans...

swing-a-ding technology.

defences and tactics against ranged combat rose so sharply that melee tactics became useful again out of practicality and were countered using melee counter-tactics.
