@Kilgore Trout: In order to vanquish the magic wielding scum, you must first understand magic yourself and show them the errors of their ways by undoing them with it.

@Bart Stabwound
on the contrary they can become extremely strong.
unless you have multiple carries that are fat, or just certain ones like sniper, medusa, sven or gyrocopter, then its impossible to defend against mega creeps.
Are creeps extremely weak in Dota 2? Every Moba I've ever played, they'll fucking end that shit for you, if you just farm all game. It'll never last 10 years.
the people who are blaming this game at the comeback mechanics are idiots. this has happened already in another game nearly 3 hours, thanks to sniper again.

and reminder that in this one, buyback had no CD, no buyback penalties, no "comeback" mechanics..
@Wildcolt: And even then, you still technically can't benefit from more than 6 items worth of stats -at one time-. You can have access to other items, but you're swapping them in/out of your 6 stack rather than actually just having more slots, unless there's a trick I don't know about.
@Wildcolt: True, but as a general rule you can only have 6 items worth of stats in any given team fight. There are scenarios (usually never seen outside of high level play) where you can swap stuff out with the courier, but it won't usually be right in the middle of a team fight.
@Adeptus Enginus: 6 slots is actually NOT the cap. 6 slots is just what you can have on you at any time ;p Keeping necro 3 and a refresher on a courier makes for 7-8 slots and goes a long way towards sieges.
@GK: The "power creep" from basic leveling caps at Level 25, and you only have six inventory slots. In otherwords, if the game goes on a VERY long time yet neither side is willing to actually take any risks, you will eventually hit a hard power cap.

What happened was C9 had one core, and SFZ had the ultimate base defense. Rapiers were being thrown around like candy, and everyone played super careful.
not a big DOTA or competitive fan, so can someone explain to me how this is possible in a game where everyone supposedly gets stronger as the game progresses
It's actually pretty amazing how well Dota's mechanics just naturally prevent infinite standoffs like this. Sure, games still can last a long time if neither team is willing to initiate, but eventually one team is going to buy a Rapier, take Aegis, or screw up somehow, and the game will be over.
