Lol is easier, Dota needs more skill. Both are fun. It really is just a question of what you like. In Dota you loose gold if you die, you can kill your own troops under 10% health and you can't surrender. Like easy games? Lol. Like challenge? DotA. Like having fun with friends? Both are fine.
...a support is a hero who doesn't need (many) items to be effective in a fight as the game goes on. Heroes like Zeus or Lina are classified as supports, but all of their skills revolve around dealing damage. You never see something like that in League, unless it's a non-meta lane like Xerath supp.
I think one of the major things I like about DOTA over LOL is what qualifies as a 'support'. In League, a support is a character whose skillset (which LoL focuses around instead of items) tends toward assisting their team (cc, sustain, buffs, etc) rather than killing players. In DOTA, a support 1/2
@Bart Stabwound
yeah nope.
before Icefrog AND before steve feak(im assuming guinsoo), there was euls who handled dota. cant remember if there was another one before him though, but anyways point is that that steve dude wasnt the one who made dota, he was just one of the people who developed it.
@Alex Beavuais: Oh geez, I hate it when people say LoL copied DotA. IceFrog started work on original DOTA after Steve Feak (now at Riot) moved on to other stuff. Just because Valve is calling their game the second one, doesn't mean it's a more legit sequel that the game that didn't grab the name.
If the enemy will just respawn in a few seconds you probably won't have the time to destroy the ancient, and it might be a better plan to grab the easy bonus from a nearly dead building and leave without overextending and throwing badly due to meaningless greed.
It's a good thing there is only one FPSs in different versions unlike MOBAS with all these companies taking a new spin on things... Oh wait, that is the exact opposite of reality.
I don't care who copies who's ideas as long as they deliver an enjoyable user experience.
Cont:
"oh wait there are like 6-10 heroes here. I mean the game have way mor eof them right? Oh you need to PAY FOR THEM? yeah not bothering with this game at all"
Yeah ;)
My experience with LOL:
"oh hey lets try this dotalike game that people are talking about. First off let's go to bots and try out EVERY hero there is. You know to know what to expect. I mean ill not go into MP and play not knowing anything and destroying the experience of other players."
Better for them to dick around taking the small buildings, that means the barracks are already destroyed. Worse when the dumbasses quite literally dive T4 chasing a support even when the barracks still stand, and ended up getting wiped by respawning enemy.
I play more LoL than Dota 2, both games are unique as in a sense of I can differentiate the two, Dota 2 is more strategy based and LoL is more akin to a fighting game with flashy moves. Dota 2 game can take longer than a League game (usually) but I suggest try out both and see what you like.
There are also some truly "massive" effects in Dota, compare say, Malphite's "Unstoppable Force" to Magnus's "Reverse Polarity" and you'll see what I mean.
@Dorian Nest Valgav: My answer would be "It depends which one you like better." Both games have their pros and cons. I know that I can have fun playing Dota, and after watching a pro LoL game that looks like it's fun too. But I will stick with Dota for now since that's what I'm familiar with.
@Dorian Nest Valgav: Last last comment, I will probably rewrite this sometime since I'm realizing there is a lot more to it than the general "dota is harder than league" and no one has really explained it well, for now I hope you have a better idea. sorry for the flood jo!
@Dorian Nest Valgav: One more comment, I realized I forgot to mention LoL can lead a more passive early game because of the summoner spells in the game, namely flash. It can give enough safety through the early-mid game that it can delay things from happening.
@Dorian Nest Valgav: I apologize for the huge flood of comments, I got a little carried away. Also take the comments with a grain of salt, I have been awake 33 hours, so a lot of what I said could be potentially skewed from what I mean. And once again, I hardly scratched the surface in details.
@Dorian Nest Valgav: One that really gets me is the lack of details in patch notes because of, I quote, "complicated math." And really, it feels like they are implying no one in their player base will be able to understand their "complex decisions."
@Dorian Nest Valgav: I also want to point out that I am fairly biased because I feel like LoL copied a lot off of DotA unjustly. But the hate for them is not all in that, its a lot of small things piled up.
@Dorian Nest Valgav: Ultimately, the way I see it is I wont judge if you prefer one game to the other, but if you think riot is worth supporting you need to sit down and think about it. They are both good games, and I play them both, but I see one company as far superior to the other.
@Awesomknight: In turn, DotA's spells have much higher base damages on spells, and the levels on them make a much higher difference leading to different playstyles available. However, I feel like I wasnt able to scratch the surface with these comments.
@Dorian Nest Valgav: However, I believe if they were not so bad at balancing ratios, (amount of damage is gained per AP) it would not be a problem for the game. Backing up, this means spells tend to be weak without stats boosting them, low base damage.
@Dorian Nest Valgav: Something I neglected to mention is AP, in LoL there is a stat that adds to the damage of your spells. DotA in general lacks that, there are like 3 or 4 spells that do that. Some attribute it to one of the reasons LoL is more snowbally.
@Dorian Nest Valgav: One of the big differences, and one where DotA is more punishing is the barracks behind T3 towers do not respawn, where the LoL equivalent, the inhibitor will. Games can tend to snowball faster in LoL than DotA.
@Dorian Nest Valgav: However the designs tend to be accompanied by bugs for a good while, and I really believe riot is an incompetent company. DotA is more punishing in ways league is forgiving, and more forgiving in ways league is punishing.
@Dorian Nest Valgav: But that is not to say DotA is not in a great state at the moment either, the meta is annoying right now, as are some of the heros. Gameplay wise LoL is a lot harder to turn a disadvantage around. But they have a lot of fun and intonational hero designs.
@Dorian Nest Valgav: Balance wise, I think DotA wins out. If a LoL player tries to tell you DotA is broken because CC is longer, or spells hit harder, they don't know a lot about much. Yes, those spells would be broken in league, but not DotA.
@Dorian Nest Valgav: I'll give you a level answer. Riot is a bad company, non debatable in my opinion. I can delve on that more if you like, but bottom line is they will never see a dime from me even though I play LoL. Valve is a good company, many will argue that.
@Dorian Nest Valgav: Though your intentions may be pure, you're opening a serious can of worms. Which doesn't HAVE to be serious, but fanbois make it so, regardless.
It's funny how you still want to farm and get items even when the game will end in seconds. Last game I played as Bane I was with the team destroying the base but I still called the courier to bring me the last piece of my Aghs when I finally had enough gold for it.
