Oh! Enemy Within MEC Glitch!
There's two foundry upgrades for MEC units that have a bug: they add +50% damage to the flame thrower (base damage 6) & the mecha-punch (base damage 12) and the . Get it. Now 9 & 18.
Now start a new campaign: Get the upgrades again. Now it's 13 & TWENTY SEVEN.

I used squadsight sniper, shredder heavy, 2 shotgun assaults and 2 medi-supports. You put your sniper somewhere high and with a good vision and let your assaults do the scouting. While heavy and medic advance behind them. Just not on the ufo crash - too much open space for shotguns.

Are you playing Vanilla or Enemy Within? Because Snipers (and Ghost Armor) ARE O.P. in vanilla, so they balanced out the crit system a tad in EW.... and gave Sectopods a universal 50% damage reduction defense ability. Also, tentacle rape Seekers.
@what the hell: not really, in Vanilla, the spawnpoints are fixed and an experienced player will know how to evade them, in any other case you can use Battle scanners, line of sight and sound queues to identify where the aliens are
My favorite tactics on xcom include 2 genemodded assaults, 2 genemodded snipers and 2 MECs with opposite skills.

If you are ready to move to a new X-Com EW run: http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/88/? Long War mod is one of the best game enhancers, with more classes (the original 4 classes + 1 mec => 8 classes + 8 mec classes, depending on the user being enhanced), and lots more, go check it out :D.
Jo, Assaults are the best because Lightning Reflexes beat alien Overwatch.
But aside from that, Assault can switch out their shotgun for the Rookie SMG again if you really hate the shotgun.
@More fanservice please: funniest and fastest, you mean. High possibility to trigger more then one spawn point at once is far from most effective. But assaults can oneshot sectopods, that's true.

Shotguns may be risky but make the game faster, while i agree that Squadsight doubletap Snipers are overpowered on Xcom, enemy within has other alternatives to the slow aproach you're taking, Flanking manouvers and Assaults are, in my opinion, the funnest and most effective way to beat Xcom

Jo, if you're looking for a good strategy game to play next, might I suggest Halo Wars? Provided you have an Xbox 360 to play it on of course. It's probably the best control RTS available for consoles, and it's easy to pick up. Matches can also take between 5 minutes and half an hour.
@Nathaniel Smith: Snipers have a bit of trouble in the more urban environments (Which I hope will play to limiting their power in the sequel coming out), but you can generally identify a good kill-zone for them and just have everyone else retreat to it once you've activated the enemy.
If you are not playing xcom with atleast one colonel assault with an alloy cannon in titan armor with the guile haircut on your squad you are playing xcom wrong and should uninstall everything.
On a side note you should try playing multiplayer I would love to wreck your squadsight cheesesquad.

As for Xcom, yea, Snipers are the gods of the early game, but don't give up on shotguns, they can get insane in the late game, almost to the same power level as snipers.
Assault with shotgun is end game nuke. Using an alloy cannon, the run and gun crit buff, with the buff for enemies in site or enemies autopsied... Dear lord the numbers get ridiculous. Only class that can potentially one shot everything.
Well, from what I could understand of my "Classic" playthrough is that your soldiers WILL die. You can't expect to do a perfect run on everything, so the"classi,iron-man" is trying to be more realistic.
At first I hated, but then you get to have some real heroes on your squad, it's a nice feeling.
Long War has Sawed-Off Shotgun sidearm. It has only one ammo in magazine and max range of three meters, though, and does not have laser/plasma variants.
Wow. This was seriously something I did not expect here. I'm hoping the next one we get is a Lelouch pose. Maybe when Angie is trying to convince someone.
Also that pose emphasizes her assets greatly and makes her look extra hot.
