Good luck.
Mmkay, so, if your OS does corrupt, how we do: it's $70 for data recovery/transfer, and $130 for OS install, if your PC has the windows 7 key on it, otherwise + another $80 to order restoration media from our vendor.
@Peter Sadlon: It made sense when it was developed for Windows 3.1 and 95/98 as it held all the important data for how a program should run and all the .ini files. However, in order to maintain backwards comparability, the Registry has needed to remain for all future versions of Windows.
@Nilok if you ask me, the Registry was the number one dumbest move Microsoft made with Windows. Putting all the potentially corruptible eggs in a single basket is never a smart move. More times than not, if I have an issue with Windows, it's Registry trash.
Windows 10 is basically
"Do you hate windows 8 with every fiber of your being? Then get windows 10 for free, just ignore the bullshit we put in later because you're getting it free."
Windows 10 is great; it's default installed apps are not, and neither are any of the apps on it's store either for that matter. Mail is an example, it syncs so infrequently that it's either out of date, or 2-3 hours behind. The OS works great though, and the new start menu is the best part.
When updating to Windows 10, it is best to do a clean install first so you don't carry over all the registry trash from Windows 7 and cause Windows 10 to act glitchy.
Yeah windows 10 is great... apart from all the programs that don't work with it. The spying on you. The 'features' (courtesy laugh) that you can't control. The stuff that you disable that gets RE-ENABLED with every update so you have to disable them again and on and on and oooooooooooon
@Ashwynn: Literally the only time people talk about win10 spying on you they just whine about "telemetry" as if it meant something. Meanwhile in the real world, we know what data Microsoft gets and it's completely harmless.
@cyberNurgle: Don't understand the hate? Well, for starters Microsoft is not satisfied witch collecting your behaviour and selling it to marketing agencies (yes win 10 is watching you) - they even have integrated DRM, that is checking if the software you have is legal - it deletes rest.
Having said that; I formatted my old OS drive. It's been a number of years- so much cruft built up, the best option was to nuke it and start fresh. Overall it's a side-grade; some improvements, and some UI changes feel like they were made for the sake of change, and not an actual improvement.
There are many things I don't like about Windows 10. It's a bit too needy for my tastes. And by that I mean; by default is calls home waayy too much. Some of it you can disable on setup, some of it you can disable in the settings, but some of it is buried deep in the realm of the registry.
I've got win 10 on my laptop and I don't mind it at all. Still declined the update on my desktop though, i've got too many... questionably legal programs to want to risk updating my os.
Ah, Windows 10. My first upgrade attempt effectively bricked my system & couldn't actually finish. Had to do a clean 7 install after it wouldn't recognize my video cards or allow for drivers to be installed.
Upgrade after the clean install: everything's fine so far (been 3 months)
I have had issues with Win 1o. Mainly programs that worked on Win 7 are now broken on Win 10. I'm going back to 7 next PC and hope that angry bee isn't a Killer Bee with the hive in tow.
Have you tried the new multiple desktops feature and updated task manager? Those are two of my favorite updates. There are also a few tweaks to window management that I've found very helpful. Oh! And the taskbar shows up on all monitors in a multi-monitor setup. That's nice.
windows 10 is basiclly 7 with just more DRM
no worthy upgrading though, but... we do get halo wars 2 and DX12 so it "might"
just MIGHT be worthwhile
personally i think the upgrade would remain free.
I liked the analogy, pretty spot on. XD
But I kinda liked W10. There's some stuff I didn;t liked it, and I think MS policy is getting a little too aggreessive for my tastes, but so far I've no real complaint about the OS so far.
My Win 10 experience has been pretty good so far.
Haven't had any problems with games or programs so far and a few games that gave me trouble on Win 7 seem to run better for me on Win 10.
The worst thing I had to manually delete and reinstall the drivers for my USB wifi card but that is about it.
well when new games start coming out with directX12, and only people with windows 10 can play them, THEN people will want to switch.
And I agree with Jo, no windows has been perfect.
After the update it kept choosing my integrated card as the default choice for games (on my laptop) until I forced it to choose my GeForce. Now it uses the integrated card for the desktop and the geforce for games. Like its supposed to on the default setting. Except its on the "use only" ..eh
The regret will come soon enough. Mine was in the form of random 20 second pauses while I'm reading webpages, watching videos and playing comics. Win7, perfectly fine. Win10, random pauses. *sigh* Can't win for losing.
