Yeah, I'll still take classic X-Com any day, thank you very much. And I mean the one from 20 years ago.
They really don't make games like they used to.
The thing I really love about Long War isn't the increased difficulty, but the increased content. Four more classes, four more MEC classes, two new tiers of weapons, tons of new itens and perks, etc. Also, making the game more replayable by changing spawn locations and etc.
Maybe i should have used the "not so long war" option to get my preferrenced challange level with my preferrenced pacing. But atm i still wait for XCOM 2 mods that cjhange mainly the length of the game so i have more time to play around with squads and gear
But i find the grinding slightly too long. Eventuelly you have reasonable geared suads and enough of them to not run into fatigue issues and you know, what to expect in each mission and how to do it and that is when long war becomes "too long".
"I'm not fan of the casual mindless games, but I prefer it to a test of patience." He says, playing Overwatch and hearthstone. LUL.
The thing about xcom though is that it starts out being RNG in the early game. Plus, xcom is long enough anyway, no need to increase the campaign length.
I can imagine that some people are ok with an idea of beating their heads against a brick wall. I'm ok with an idea that I'm not a "true gamer" since I'm giving up at some point. But for the love of god, don't let those guys in game design.
@RedSnoipah Dude, what the hell, he's not bashing it, he's saying he doesn't feel like it because it's a big investment. And don't start with the "true gamer" stuff, you can't use that to rebuke other people's opinion and bunch them all together, it's stupid.
@RedSnoipah
your being elitist, there isn't one type of gamer its not like all games are made to be challenging some are mean't to be fun, if your insisting that simply because someone doesn't like what you like they aren't a true gamer thats a "no true scottsman" fallacy i suggest you look it up
Ohh, I know a good mod for Stellaris: Extermination.
Instead of conquering or otherwise subjugating a pre-FTL Civ(for it is either expensive or really bad PR),
one can just pour a can of space-DDT on their planet and within few years the planet in question will be clean and ready for colonization.
You think "Long War" is long? Try to play AI War. Campaigns in that game can drag out a lot of time. Plus it's a very hard game. Visually it isn't very appealing but Long War seems easier compared to this.
That face on angie's in the 2nd clip is so serious and menaceing, and then her face is so cheesy in the 3rd, it just makes me laugh and think she might have embraced her crazy side or something.
Long war is like speedrunning a game, looks cool, you wanna try it, but in the end, either you don't have the time or patience to actually do it, or you had to learn every single aspect of the game to do it.
That said, the two mods I would most highly recommend are FFT 1.3 and FFVI Brave New World. Both take already great games and make them harder, but in ways that make complete sense if you've played the base game. 1.3 mostly just unlocks the purposefully hobbled AI, and BNW enhances and streamlines.
Hard core XCom fans just aren't happy if they can't stroke their EPeen through long-ass grindy campaigns. for myself, I found Long War kind of pointless. You could still exploit the AI - this belief that cheese is removed is cute but inaccurate. You just get to die and see the fail video more.
Learning how the AI works and exploiting it is one of my favourite things to do in a videogame. And no, I'm not talking about reading the exploits on a guide and doing them. I'm talking about finding them yourself.
Jo, how did you made through terror missions without alerting multiple pods at once? In original game, once you got to tier 3 equipment, you could just face roll any mission.
And lastly on my spamming spree. Galactic Civilizations. That is a game with a near flawless AI. The hardest difficulty settings is truly challenging, never got to win a game and I didn't felt cheated, just felt stupid at the enemies exploiting clear flaws in my strategy.
Some people also cannot, for the life of me, differentiate hard "challenging" from hard "putting a gun to your face and making you eat shit with a chance of a deus ex machina saving you". I don't really get those mods (Even Valkyria Chronicles had one), but I can't find any entertainment in it.
Exploiting the flaws and quirks of enemy's AI is indeed one of my favourite things about any Strategy game ever. I don't get it why there's so many modders trying to make it a gruesome experience however. With the whole RNG dependancy these games have, I'm not guilty of using everything I can to win
