I think the satellite is for providing the *coverage* of the event. Might be the connection to game servers but even then, if they're renting it, the sole dedication of resources will actually be fine. I've used satellite to game plenty and while not perfect it's still not as crippling as many like
Has no one involved with this decision ever actually used satellite internet? I have, and I can tell you the game will be almost unplayable, if not completely unplayable. There will be about two seconds of guaranteed lag under even the best conditions.
