@ Platypus : That doesn't change the fact that Team Ninja wasn't to really blame for Other M being bad. They made an okay game. It was Yoshio Sakamoto himself who turned it into a shitshow.
Mario kart always disappointed me. incredibly basic and just mario characters.
Sega went and made an awesomely fun game that included a wide variety of sega characters not just sonic characters. I didnt play the first one much but the sequel all stars transformed is awesomely fun AND on steam!
@ Platypus : 2/2? Bah. For one, Retro did a wonderful job with the Prime series. For another, Team Ninja's not to blame for Other M. That's all Sakamoto...which is sad, considering he made Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion.
Well they shouldn't have 3rd partied Metroid Other M to Team Ninja, the people who make boob-physics-fighting-game. So far they 2/2 for external devs screwing up Metroid.
I think people looking at this all wrong. Everyone wants a new Metroid game, but it's also good to end a series before it becomes a zombie (like Pokemon or Zelda). Would you rather have a short, good/decent series, or cranked-out sequels? And before someone mentions it, I do like Pokemon and Zelda.
Lets be honest, Metroid began to suck when the focus switched from Samus being a Badass Bounty Hunter to Samus being a Woman
It was never needed in any other game, Samus is a Badass Bounty Hunter who happens to be female, thats how it should be
I've been waiting for a new Metroid game for years. I even dreamt about remakes of the old 2D games in Metroid Prime style.
They missed out on the anniversary too... The only shimmer of hope is that Retro studios was hiring last December. No leak what game it was for though. We can dream, right?
without side games they just don't got that much places to go with the main storyline (at least, how they're probably justifying it). Metroid needs some new blood or characters to keep going, but consider the backlash the silly little sidegame got and, well...
The thing that gets me about Federation Force the most is because it DIDN'T have Samus, it seemed to get the most hate beyond Other M... And it was before it was even released to stand on itself. That's kinda the problem with Metroid now - Nintendo's more or less finished the 'main' story, and ->
Hey, you can complain about literally anything. The real question is the value of the complaint and that's a person to person thing to decide. For instance That zelda open world game has a hilariously bad weapon durability system
Never played the game just read a review lets do this.
@NekoiNemo The Prime trilogy was the high point in Metroid's popularity, and many enjoyed them more than the 2D releases. They just need to stick to the traditional "find the path" style, avoid Other M's hand-holding.
Every other game, other than Other M and Federation Force, has been to critical acclaim. I don't think that they're afraid of criticism towards the new game, but poor sales. Metroid has a history of selling poorly in Japanese markets.
It's not hard at all to release a Metroid game nowadays. If you were a part of the Metroid community, you'd know that. People hated Other M because it destroyed Samus's established character, and Federation Force pissed people off because it was your bog standard ShmUp with Metroid slapped on it.
The only hard thing about it is declaring Other M noncanon.
Then they only need to make a decent platformer with areas unlocked by upgrades, not the hardest genre. She doesn't need to talk, but it's fine if she does, and stoic is EZ mode writing.
Man, Samus is such a nice character in concept... makes you wonder how the hell the collective of the creative minds on Nintendo can't seem to be able to create something as epic as the series deserves.
Inkling Girl is still better than Baby Rosalina (hell, any of the babies) or goddamn Pink Gold Peach.
I mean, why?! Who the hell wanted an even pinker, metallic version of Princess Toadstool.
The release of AM2R clearly shown that there are no risks in releasing a good Metroid game today (by "good" i obviously mean good metroidvania-style Metroid, not that sluggish 3D FPS nonsense). But alas, Nintendo is doing the Nintendo thing...
