I think it only took 4 years because he licensed the engine from Horizon: Zero Dawn. It takes a lot less time to make a game when you don't have to build it from scratch.
What people have been upset with Konami and a bunch of other companies is that they are turning their beloved IPs into microtransaction cashgrabs taking advantage of the history of beloved games made by people they kicked out. Sort like AE games but with their own IPs instead of buying others.
Returning to its roots. (the original creator was only involved with the first game of the series and left Konami for another company as well). Sadly Silent Hills was scrapped since Kojima was no longer with Konami despite the massively positive reception the trailer had.
By the way Metal gear is not the only series Konami had trashed. Silent Hill series (that were not related to Kojima) also took some questionable turns. Before Konami kicking Kojima out he got involved with Silent Hill series and fans of the original game were hyped as the game seemed to be
Not sure if you are aware of this but Might9 was not the first game by comcept and they had other relatively well received games before it. On problem I see with these kickstarter games is that they allow too much input from the public. Shantae for example I think it could have been better if they

Well at least the studio gained the needed experience in coding, mechanics & art because at least DS looks good.../End

In fact I have seen people say that nobody really likes coffee and just pretend to like it because it is expected from them that. It is the same mentality.
Have his merits. Calling him a hack and that people only like his games due to fanboyism is like saying that mexican food is awful and people just pretend to enjoy it so they don’t get seen as pussies that can’t take some spicy food.
While Mighty 9 was a flop the same company made other games that look pretty nice also there are a few metal gear games without Kojima and it seems like the ones with Kojima are better than the ones without him. Not saying that he is the only responsible for the success of the series but he does

While Kojima is the one behind the idea, characters & plot of MG series, he is not responsible for the mechanics nor the coding, neither was the one behing the art. This is the problem: member Mighty Nº6?
Personally I have only played 3 Metal Gear games and enjoyed them, I presented one of the games to another guy qho became a Metal Gear fan and bought all the games since the PS1 one despite never having heard abou Kojima before. So there must be more than just a brand.
It is funny that people claim that people only like Kojima/Anno because they are a brand ignoring why they became a brand. People are interested in their creations because they enjoyed their past creations so they want more of that. Claim that stuff you don’t enjoy have no merits sounds childish.
I believe it's like with Hideoki Anno. The name is a Brand. No matter what they release, it will be hailed as masterpiece, just because of the name tag attached. If it's confusing and makes no sense? Even better. They can use the "too deep for you" argument.
Unpopular opinion: But I think Kojima is a hack. None of his games make a lick of sense, and aren't that fun to play. Weebs love him for some reason though.
