@EnragedFilia That's true. And i mean, it's not like not having multiple endings will necessarily make the game bad, but when you sell the game based on that premise, and don't deliver it, then it starts to stink.
@Shareazu
But if you count every game that just gives you a "choice" between two or three endings based on your karma meter or completion % or whatever, then there's dozens of examples. In particular the likes of KOTOR, Mass Effect, every Megami Tensei...
Do people still fall for AAA marketing bullshit? Have we not yet evolved enough as a society to know that the bigger the budget and the bigger the promises, the less you will actually get? Have we learned nothing from Peter "Watch a Tree Grow" Molyneux?
Now I'm trying to think if there's ever been a true "open world experience where your choices matter". Maybe Eve Online, where the only 'plotlines' are what the playerbase makes up themselves?
(cont) you won't call up a pack of your bros and low tech it like a Nomad. You are kind of like a Street Kid, but even then you won't call in a gang to ambush the big bad corporate solo because you are Street Samurai and you are the cheap, barely obsolete knock off of a corp murder machine.
The thing is the game tells you that you are a corpo, street kid or a nomad. The reality is that V is a Solo. It doesn't matter what your background is, you solve your problems like a solo. You won't solve your problems with a phone call and political maneuvering like a corp. (cont)
The endings can kind of align with corpo nomad or streetkid but you get to the endings thru gameplay decisions moreso than what you picked at the start which only comes up every so often. There are a few quests where lifepath comes into play but only a few.
Maaaaaybe try doing a different life path and seeing what opportunities are opened up with that before saying they don't matter. I'm not invalidating your opinion, but saying that having some data would be nice.
If Peter Molyneux has taught me ANYTHING it's that people who promise you an open world experience where your choices matter, are LYING. Ever. Single. Time.
