I think Valve has a vision for Pyro and TF2 in general. You need to work for your kill. I guess the current Pyro can hack some easy kills just moving straight and flaming people without much effort. It isn't gracious or elegant, but it works.

Or worked! Many times I was licked by a Pyro coming form behind just to instantly turn 180 degrees and blast him away.
