Yes, FF14 is new, but it has to compete with the current WoW, not the WoW that came out 5-6 years ago. If both games came out at the same time your point would be valid but the reason that it's so hard to get an MMO out is because WoW has had all that time to be refined/polished.

I'm also guessing they're kinda holding back till the PS3 release which they unfortunately had to delay because of a silly technical issue with the PS3. I by holding back I mean they don't want the PC gamers to be too far ahead of the PS3 when it comes out.

Also the game is still being updated. People complain that the game isn't perfect, well the game just came out, did you think WoW or Guild Wars were amazingly addictive upon their release? No they had to update and tweak in order to cater to the users wants and needs.

Still can't wait to play the game.
Maybe I'm just "delusional", since I find everything in the game rather interesting and fun. I loved XI, I hate WoW and pretty much every WoW clone out there. They just seem too easy, go fight monster A, bring back item B to NPC C, rinse repeat. Nothing fun there.

FFXI was, for me, rather immersive. Day and Night, combat being fun early in (Mind you I never got past level 45 as a Red Mage, but around then I felt the drag of being a Refresh Mage... backup caster not so much fun.) But it took forever. so if FFXIV drags heels...Well, hello Guild Wars.

I used to play FFXI. I've already heard that much of the complaints about FFXI were ground into chocobo feed by the FFXIV design team. Cross-language servers, crafting dependancies and forced grouping will all be making a comeback. Squeenix, please stop sucking...

Hmmm so their crafting mechanism is contrived and dull to curb botting? Isn't bottings whole thing to do contrived dull tasks that players are too lazy to do themselves? By no means do I condone botting I'm just saying Its counter productive to make your system suck as it will just encourage it.

Actually, in regards to the commentary, one little problem:
At least SOME people found the resource mini-game of Mass Effect 2 entertaining-- It is a targetting-optimization thing, a favorite for a friend of mine.

The number of people who find FF14 entertaining? FAR SMALLER.

It still seems funny though, SquareEnix's ideas for character races somehow still boarder on strict gender stereotypes. There's a male only "Barbarian" Human subtype (highlander I think?)... whats with japan and no visually physically strong looking women (also applying to the not-galka)

if it can offer any solace: there's still hope for the male equivalent of a Migo'te in FF14, now that they've introduced a male Mithra in FF11.

I WAS excited about this game. In the open beta I spent much more time in the character creator (read: making cat girls) than the actual game. When I did get to play the game it was very washed down, lots of lag, slow paced combat, and not very enjoyable.

Character creator was great though!

FF 14 is EVE-like in that it's almost entirely group? Ugh, purge it from the shelves. Preferably with fire.

I was rally looking forward to this game and had it preorderd. Than i was in the demo for awhile. I canceled the order.

I personally found it a good PvE game that doesn't lead you around by the hand like other MMOs during its beta. (Lead you around and patronize you at the same time)

I have to agree, most casuals will quit in the first few hours.

Does anyone else find FFXIV just a little bland(beyoing the annoying gameplay that is).
The only real improvement over their last MMO is that the catgirls have proper noses and ears that dont look like figs coming out of their head.
