As for its INTENDED use, it is called a body/hug pillow for a reason. You wrap your body around it and it will help keep your back straight while you sleep and generally lead to a more comfortable rest. My back would be in far worse shape if it wasn't for owning one for the past few years.

A dakimakura and its cover would never ship like that... The pillow is usually vacuum sealed to take up as little space as possible and the cover is nicely folded up.
