"because it's not easy to find old games nowdays, and reliving a part of your childhood is priceless."

Agreed. I recently found Descent 1 & 2 on GOG and I was walking on air. A few hours ago I beat the Mercury Core boss, which I was never able to do back when I was little.

GOG Grandma seems so much more loveable. She's so nice.

Jo, remind me to send you big ol' box of chocolate or something at christmas, to say thank you for introducing me to Good Old Games :'D So many wonderful memories!

I really, really like that when EA gets upset, she gorges herself on "personal info". That was just a fantastic touch.

Do want, but the fact that, like Steam, you have to have a credit card or Paypal (which itself requires some form of bank account) to buy stuff means that I can't. :( /unemployedcollegestudentslament

are now getting a second chance in this one. And there are quite a few gems on GOG.

Furthermore I don't think you understand that Emulation is usually for old SYSTEMS and these are old PC games. Granted you could call some Dosbox games.. emulation (not really as it is quite a stretch to do so).
Dehnus
@Eli I know emulation, but some times you want to support certain companies doing good things like this. This is a hasslefree easy to install old games are great for LanParties :). Like a game of Earth 2150, or other newer games that haven't quite sold in the
Eli
Psssh, GoG? While it looks like a good idea in concept, it mainly seems like it's for the people who don't know how to emulate. Sure, actual emulation is illegal. But it's free and you can get a wider range of games'n'stuff as well as the (sometimes just as enjoyable) rom hacks.

Heh. "Personal info".
Agogfan
Like almost everyone big in gaming enjoys doing! You must install this in order to play your game! Why? We don't trust you. Dude i paid for you game, why else am i having to deal with your drm, by having to install this needlessthing! For you are a thief! What the fuck dude!
Agogfan
With out gog, i would never have been able to play games like Temple of Elemental evil for only 6 bucks and drm free! And many other old games, they sold as well. Gog, is treating me like i am paying for your game and not treating me like i am a good no thief.
Agogfan
And yes gog does have Planescape. Along with many other old dungeons and dragons games. Like Temple of Elemental Evil, a game which has aged very well. Some games age well and others, well they just don't. If we lived in a perfect world, every game would be drm free like gog.
Gogfan
Gog, is like the very old days of gaming. Where drm was not the crazy shit we have today, with ubisoft and blizzard's diablo 3. Back when things where only enter a code or have a disk check. These lesser forms of drm, that didn't get in our way of gaming or say one day you couldn't play your game.

Wow! GOG IS just like my grandma! She does things the old-fashioned way, and reminds me of the best parts of my childhood.

Also she lied about her imminent death for attention.

@gfox: As for the PS:T, you could always buy it on the DVD, but do not expect fancy stuff such as manual. Oh and the discs are poor quality (I only bough it last year and its already unreadable).
Great Biotic Wind
@gfox: Probably some insecurity about aging, fear of commitment etc. You know, the usual. X-Com imo did not age very well, but even then its better than most of the later attempts.
Drascin
@gfox: Eyup, they do have Planescape - and pretty much every other good old D&D game. Only way I could try that game, as I didn't even have a PC when Torment came out.

@Great Biotic Wind: Oh, and re: the "mid-life crisis" comment... what about those of us in our 30s who've never stopped playing DOS games in the first place? Is our whole life a mid-life crisis? :::pops in some Faith No More and plays X-Com:::
gfox
Hey Godot, does GOG really have Planescape Torment? One of my original CD-ROMs of that is cracked (literally cracked) and I can't play it anymore. I'm a loyal Steamhead, but I'd give GOG a try if they do have Planescape Torment. :::drools:::

GoG-tan (obatama, maybe?) is indeed the cuddliest of all digital distribution-tans. She may not be sleek or sexy like Steam-tan, but you can't beat that nostalgic matronly warmth. Plus, she's not clingy, abusive, or invasive in the slightest. DRM-free is the way to be.
Passerby

I suppose if you really like classics, you should try searching for abandonware. Those are reeeeally classic, tho...

Steam's should be HUGE!
Godot
GoG has no DRM and really has no serious terms to accept beyond pretty standard "you are buying a game online" stuff. What's all this "accept whatever GoG gives you" BS?
GasBandit
What do you mean, "you have to accept whatever GoG gives you?" GoG has no DRM at all - you buy it, you download it, you install it, no hassles.

GoG rocks.

@Jayke: You are right. Then again, it was early in the morning around these parts and I did not get much sleep last night. That said, I do believe there is actually some truth about what I wrote earlier.

You should add (in my order of preference) Impulse/GameStop PC Downloads (make it a half-Impulse, half-Gamestop girl), Gamersgate, Direct2Drive, Desura, Games For Windows Live, OnLive, Green Man Gaming, Get Games, Amazon and BigFish.
HeavyTank
I guess compatibility is the main thing here.Still, I couldn't buy an old game for that much without feeling a bit ripped off, especially when newer ones (2004-2009) can be found for less.
Rolan7
GoG also has no DRM, and the downloader is optional. You can, at anytime, download a generic installer for any of the games in your GoG library. It merely installs the game, and like someone mentioned, it's sometimes amazing that they've got these games working on modern systems!
Schrikvis
Awww yeah. Though physical games are... well, I prefer 'em on consoles. No disc-changing-stuff.
Oh well. Steam's pride needs to enlarge even further.

@HeavyTank: You can get water for free in any river and yet people pay for bottled water. Commodity and security goes a long way in opening people's pockets.
Drascin
@HeavyTank: Mostly, you pay for the service. GOG takes old games that don't work in, say, Windows 7, makes them work in new systems, and sells them in a nice DRM-free package you can redownload anytime. 'sides, some games age just fine - Rayman 1 forever, bitches :P

If you want old games checke out lukie games.

p.s. Jo could've made GOG character a classy lady with a big bust and glasses with some classic dress leaving no skin visible. Old games are old but they sure are awesome.
^_^
GOG grandma is the best! She can beat both Steam and Origin and make some cookies while doing so. Old games were so much better (though there are some awesome modern games, there were much more before eks-bawks and CO kicked in).
Rothide
I know this is probably a pipe dream, but when Good Old Games gets Crimson Skies into its library I will die a happy man (at a ripe old age still playing Crimson Skies)
HeavyTank
While I appreciate what GoG is doing, I still don't understand why anyone would want to PAY for an age-old game that should be free, or priced around 1-2$ in the first place, especially if you already have it on an old CD or floppy.
Let's face it, games don't age as well as movies do..

Finding a comic that I swear to god is based off of one of my comments is eerie, though GOG is older than I pictured.

Still, spread the word. It's still the only place that has the Infinity Engine games for digital download, plus everything else worth playing that we played over ten years ago.
Great Biotic Wind
I was wondering who is actually buying all those ancient games.
Oh well, I guess guys hit by mid life crisis sometimes do much sillier things than playing DOS games.
Aze

Nice visual pun with the "ice cream". Almost better than the comic's actual punchline ;-)
DM1293

Battlefield 3: $60
Counter Strike Source: $20
Team Fortress 2: Free
GoG: $5 to $10

Being able to play the Tex Murphy games without having to swap discs and living out a missed opportunity of an excellent game: Priceless.

i never knew GoG existed. they have a lot of good clasic games. luckily for me i keep all my old CD-roms from my old days but those prices are really good. It reminded me about the lack of a psychonauts 2 though. I would love it if they made a new Episodic Psychonauts game
