@Malygon: Actually, that got revealed in a PCGamer article recently - it looks like the rewards a high-level player who's downlevelled receive are better than the player whose level matches the content, but not as good as they'd get for doing content appropriate to their own level.
OMG, Yes! I'm SOOO sick of playing through act 1 now and I haven't even started act 2. Because of this, I have all my slots filled up with character just sort of hanging out at the very beginning of act 2. At what point is it appropriate to tell your friends that they're just on their own?

Also: This comic is truth. ESPECIALLY in MMOs you've started specifically to play with your friends...

This Feel, i know this feel.
The only character i want to really play is my Barb, but all my friends will bitch at me if i level without them.
Thankfully i learned that the monk is Awesome, so he helps with my soloing needs.

fortunately if you are a few levels off the low level can catch up by the end of an act, for the first few quests it will be difficult for the low lvl.

@Rawrikins: And since there isn't a leveling curve as much as a leveling plateau you won't need that much more XP to level up. Wether you do get the same amount of XP he does for killing mobs and doing events, however, has still to be determined.

I'd LIKE to play Diablo 3, but my computer is shit and either can't run it or can't install it correctly.
Wait for 60

To be honest I think it is better if you simply start to group once level 60.
It is not THAT long to reach and once everyone is 60 you can just group as you wish and farm bosses and stuff going through nightmare, hell and inferno.

Even though this comic has absolutely nothing to do with the quality and content of the game itself, and is actually just using D3 as a setting to address a situation that many co-op RPGs in the past have dealt with...
Perfect place to talk about how much you think the game sucks or hate DRM!

This is why I like City of Heroes. You can sidekick up or down and adjust your team's level to match whatever content you're playing. Anyone can play with anyone without issues.

I understand this, and I'm not even that fast a leveler. One day you're having fun with a friend, next day they disappear. Two months later they log in, "Why you level without me? :(" Then of course you wait for them and end up never seeing them again.

Every fucking time on Diablo II
My friend convinced me to get it, and blasted through whilst I was left to pick up the scraps that he left behind, to get me through the game faster.
Was there a story to DII? I never saw it.

Act III? Lucky git. I've only just gotten to the start of Act II, because of that stupid 3007 error.
Bloody Blizzard DRM.

Yeah, as mentioned City of Heroes, but Final Fantasy XI did it first, as far as I can tell, with level capped areas. Expanded later with the Level Sync function, which treats everyone in the party as though they're the same level (if higher), but they get experience and such off the Sync'd targets.

Is it possible to make a game system, where different power level character can play comfortably with each other?
Wisknort
@Platypus: (City of Heroes had a fix, where everyone scaled towards party leader.)
That sounds pretty cool. I'm definitely going to remember it, though I don't think I'd ever use that exact system.
Wisknort
This is why I've been thinking about how to design a game to not have this problem. Either make mixed-level parties work well, or have a thing for the party of 4 but one player just can't play anywhere near so often.
Chase
I know that feeling.
Both directions, on the same game, with the same characters. With the same people. I eventually decided they were not very nice people. Since they never told me one way or the other (if wait or go) and always blamed me when it didn't match up.

City of Heroes had a fix for this situation, where the party leader basically set the "level" of the party as a whole. High level people got powered down, low-level people got powered up (for only the powers they had unlocked). Worked lovely.

And a lot less fun.
And usually leaves people friendless.
And end up dealing with even worse n00bs who can't tell the difference between a monk and a barbarian.
I'll stick with my friends, thanks.

OK I feel the pain. I have a level 18 WD with my friend and brother. A level 15 Barb for my other friend. Level 12 wizard as a ult for my brother and I playing alone. I've also started monk because a friend was dumb and got 2 day shipping from amazon, and just started.

I am SOOOO glad that in GW2, your level is scaled down for the zone, so you can play with your lowbie friends whenever you want, and "actual-level" loot drops for you.
Oh and overflow server means that you can play no matter how many other people are on, no queues.
